The CHICAGO-LATROBE 42008 is a jobber-length twist drill bit engineered for heavy-duty drilling in steel and similar ferrous materials. Built from M7 high speed steel and finished with a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced heat buildup compared to standard HSS or TiN-coated alternatives. It measures 1/8 inch (0.1250 inches) in diameter with a 2-3/4 inch overall length and features a 135-degree notched split point for fast, self-centering starts on curved or flat surfaces. The parabolic flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation, reducing chip packing in deep holes. Licensed contractors, machinists, and trade professionals working in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical rough-in applications will find this bit suited to high-repetition drilling tasks.
The 42008 is designed for right-hand cutting in steel as its primary workpiece material, though the TiCN coating and M7 substrate also handle stainless, cast iron, and hard alloys. The straight cylindrical shank (0.1250 inches diameter) seats directly into standard 3-jaw keyless or keyed drill chucks without adapters. With a 1-5/8 inch flute length and web-thinned, tapered-web construction, this bit suits both benchtop drill presses and portable hand drills in residential and commercial jobsite environments. It ships individually and is sold as a single unit.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct upgrade for standard 1/8 inch jobber-length drill bits in the CHICAGO-LATROBE Series 150WLPN. Compatible with any drill press or hand drill accepting a 1/8 inch straight cylindrical shank.
Install only in a drill press, hand drill, or driver rated for 1/8 inch straight shank bits. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the chuck is tightened securely before operation. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. For drilling hardened steel or stainless, use a cutting fluid or lubricant to extend bit life and prevent work hardening at the cut point.
