Product Description

The CHICAGO-LATROBE 41776 is a jobber length drill bit in Letter F size (0.2570 inches decimal equivalent), manufactured from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements compared to conventional 118-degree points. Web thinning further aids penetration in harder workpiece materials. At 4.125 inches overall length with a 2.875-inch flute length, this bit fits standard jobber-length drill chucks and CNC setups alike. It is sized and manufactured to NAS 907 Type B standards, making it a suitable choice for production drilling environments where dimensional consistency and tool life are critical.

This drill bit is rated for use in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel. The TiN coating increases surface hardness and reduces friction at the cutting edge, extending tool life in ferrous materials compared to uncoated HSS. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 1.25-inch shank diameter seats securely in standard drill chucks, turret lathes, and drill press fixtures. Typical applications include general production drilling, maintenance work, and repeat-hole operations where a letter-size drill is required for tapping or reamed-fit preparation.

Key Features

  • Letter F size, 0.2570 inches decimal, with a diameter tolerance of -0.0010 to 0.0000 inches for precise fitment
  • 135-degree split point reduces thrust and minimizes walking on hard or smooth surfaces
  • Titanium nitride (TiN) coating improves wear resistance and extends tool life in ferrous materials
  • Web-thinned, tapered web construction for improved chip clearance and reduced cutting forces
  • 2-flute regular spiral design promotes efficient chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications
  • NAS 907 Type B compliant, heavy-duty grade construction for production and maintenance use

Compatibility

Designed for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. The straight-cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks and toolholders accepting a 1.25-inch shank diameter. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit.

Installation Notes

Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with metal cutting operations. Ensure the drill chuck or toolholder is fully tightened and rated for the shank diameter before operation. Verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter per standard machining practice. Do not exceed the rated capacity of the drill press or CNC machine being used.
