The CHICAGO-LATROBE 41699 is a jobber-length drill bit from the Series 150ASP-TN, designed for high-performance drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it carries a wire gauge size of No. 29, which corresponds to 0.1360 inches in decimal. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust required to initiate a cut. Overall length is 2-7/8 inches with a flute length of 1-3/4 inches. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 1.125 inches in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks. This is a heavy-duty grade bit rated to NAS 907 Type B standards.
This drill bit is suited for use on cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel workpieces in fabrication, maintenance, and mechanical assembly environments. The right-hand spiral flute with regular helix evacuates chips efficiently in through-hole and blind-hole drilling. The TiN coating extends tool life by reducing friction and surface heat at the cutting edge. This bit is appropriate for machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, millwrights, and maintenance technicians working with metal substrates in both shop and field settings. Appropriate cutting fluid or coolant should be applied when drilling stainless steel or hardened steel to manage heat buildup at the cutting edge. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating for wear before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive dulling is observed.
