The CHICAGO-LATROBE 41690 is a jobber-length twist drill bit in wire gauge size 20 (0.1610 inches decimal), designed for high-performance metal drilling in demanding trade and industrial applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced friction compared to uncoated HSS. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch, reducing walking and improving hole location accuracy. With an overall length of 3.25 inches and a flute length of 2.125 inches, it fits standard jobber-length drill chucks used by machinists, pipefitters, fabricators, and maintenance technicians.
This drill bit is suited for use in ferrous and hard-to-machine materials including cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel. The regular spiral flute with a tapered web and web-thinned geometry helps clear chips efficiently in through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. Right-hand cut with a straight-cylindrical shank, it is compatible with standard three-jaw drill chucks on corded drills, drill presses, and CNC equipment. The Series 150ASP-TN designation indicates a heavy-duty grade engineered for high-cycle production environments as well as field service work.
Designed for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Compatible with standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a straight-cylindrical shank of 1.125 inches shank diameter. Conforms to NAS 907 Type B specification.
A licensed machinist, maintenance technician, or experienced fabricator should install and operate this drill bit. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck before operation, and verify chuck tightening with a chuck key where applicable. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for stainless steel and cast iron to manage heat and prolong bit life. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating before each use; a worn or chipped point should be replaced or resharpened before continuing work.
