The CHICAGO-LATROBE 41685 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty metal drilling applications. It is made from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that extends cutting life and reduces friction at the cutting edge. The No. 15 wire size corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.1800 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on contact and requires no center punch on flat surfaces. Overall length is 3-3/8 inches with a 2-3/16-inch flute length. This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in metalworking environments and is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and industrial tradespeople.
The 41685 is rated for use in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel. The right-hand spiral flute with regular helix evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling. The straight cylindrical shank with a diameter of 1-3/16 inches fits standard drill chucks on both corded and battery-powered drills as well as drill presses and CNC equipment. The tapered web configuration with web thinning reduces thrust and improves penetration in harder alloys. This bit is part of the CHICAGO-LATROBE 150ASP-TN series, which is built to NAS 907 Type B standards for high-performance tooling.
Designed for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Compatible with standard drill chucks accepting a 1-3/16-inch straight cylindrical shank. Part of the CHICAGO-LATROBE 150ASP-TN series conforming to NAS 907 Type B specification.
Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck before operation and verify chuck tightness before each use. Apply appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to manage heat and extend bit life. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping after extended use and replace the bit if diameter tolerance or point geometry is compromised.
