The CHICAGO-LATROBE 41684 is a jobber length drill bit from the 150ASP-TN series, designed for heavy-duty drilling in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. It carries a wire gauge size of 14, which corresponds to 0.1820 inches in decimal. The bit is manufactured from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating to extend wear life and reduce heat buildup at the cutting edge. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on contact and requires less feed force at entry, making it a practical choice for production and field work where precision and throughput both matter. Installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and metalworking tradespeople, this bit meets NAS 907 Type B standards for dimensional and performance consistency.
The 41684 is suited for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel in both shop and on-site environments. Its 3-3/8 inch overall length and 2-3/16 inch flute length place it in the standard jobber length range, compatible with bench drill presses, CNC drill heads, hand drills, and magnetic base drills that accept a straight cylindrical shank. The regular spiral flute design provides consistent chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations in medium to thick stock.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard jobber length drill bit for use in any drill press, hand drill, or CNC drilling setup that accepts a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.1820 inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade technicians familiar with metal cutting operations. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before use and verify chuck key removal prior to powering the drill. Always match spindle speed to the workpiece material and bit diameter per standard machining feeds-and-speeds references. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece to prevent movement during drilling.
