The CHICAGO-LATROBE 41671 is a jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials including cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel. This bit measures 0.2280 inches in diameter (wire size No. 1) with an overall length of 3.875 inches and a flute length of 2.625 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on contact and lowers thrust requirements compared to a standard 118-degree point. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating increases surface hardness and reduces friction, extending tool life in production environments. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 1.25 inches in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks or machine spindles. Installed by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and metalworking tradespeople.
This bit is suited for drilling operations in ferrous metals where surface hardness and tool longevity are priorities. The No. 1 wire size (0.2280 inches) covers common hole requirements in cast iron components, stainless steel fabrication, and general steel work. The regular spiral flute geometry and tapered web configuration provide efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole operations. Coolant-through capability is not supported on this model. The series 150ASP-TN designation identifies it as a heavy-duty, high-performance variant within the CHICAGO-LATROBE lineup, built to NAS 907 Type B standards.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct procurement option for applications requiring a No. 1 wire gauge (0.2280 inch) jobber length drill bit in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel substrates. Compatible with standard drill chucks and machine spindles accepting a 1.25-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with metalworking equipment. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify concentricity before high-speed runs. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow shop safety protocols. Do not exceed the rated speed range for the material being drilled, and allow adequate chip clearing to prevent flute packing, especially in stainless steel.
