The CHICAGO-LATROBE 41624 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for heavy-duty metal drilling applications. Built from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended wear resistance and reduced friction during cutting. The bit measures 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch) in diameter with a 5-inch overall length and a 3-5/8-inch flute length. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on hard materials and requires no center punch in most applications. The tapered web and web-thinned geometry improve chip evacuation and reduce thrust load. This bit is suited for machinists, pipefitters, HVAC installers, and general tradespeople working with ferrous metals.
The 41624 is built for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel in production and field environments. The right-hand spiral flute with regular helix promotes consistent chip removal in through-hole and blind-hole drilling. The straight cylindrical shank measures 1.380 inches in shank length and fits standard 3-jaw drill chucks on both corded and cordless equipment. It is a practical choice for fabrication shops, mechanical contractors, and service technicians who drill into steel enclosures, pipe hangers, structural members, and equipment frames.
Designed for drilling cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Fits standard 3-jaw chucks accepting straight cylindrical shanks. Part of the CHICAGO-LATROBE Series 150ASP-TN high-performance jobber-length line.
Installation is performed by machinists, pipefitters, and mechanical trade professionals using standard drill presses, magnetic-base drills, or hand-held power drills. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and use cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or hardened steels to extend bit life and manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is present. Do not exceed the drill speed recommendations for the workpiece material and bit diameter.
