The CHICAGO-LATROBE 11112 is a high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling applications where a standard-length bit cannot access the work area. Built to Series 912 specifications, it features a 135-degree split point that is self-centering, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on entry. The 5/16-inch diameter bit carries an oxide finish for basic lubricity and corrosion resistance. With a 12-inch overall length and a 3.1875-inch spiral flute, this bit delivers chip evacuation in extended-reach setups. It is sized for use by machinists, aircraft maintenance technicians, and trade professionals working in structural and fabrication environments.
This drill bit is suited for through-hole and deep-access drilling in metal fabrication, aircraft maintenance, HVAC equipment assembly, and general mechanical trade work. The extended 12-inch overall length makes it practical for reaching into confined spaces, framing cavities, or structural members where standard bits fall short. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks without adapters. Right-hand cutting direction is compatible with conventional drill motors. General-purpose tool performance rating makes it appropriate for mild steels, aluminum, and similar materials typical in trade and light industrial applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use aircraft extension drill for trade and industrial applications requiring a 5/16-inch, 12-inch-long high speed steel bit with a straight-cylindrical shank conforming to NAS 907 Type B.
This drill bit is installed by machinists, aircraft maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using standard drill motors or drill presses. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized chuck before operation to prevent slippage under load. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being drilled to extend bit life and maintain hole tolerance. Inspect the split point for wear or damage before each use, as a worn point will compromise the self-centering feature and hole accuracy.
