The CHICAGO-LATROBE 11097 is a 5/64 inch high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling applications where standard-length bits cannot access the work area. Built to Series 912 specifications and compliant with NAS 907 Type B standards, this bit features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on curved or hard surfaces. The oxide finish provides corrosion resistance and helps reduce friction during drilling. With a 1 inch flute length and 12 inch overall length, it is suited to production and maintenance drilling in tight or deep clearance conditions.
This drill bit is used in aerospace maintenance, sheet metal fabrication, and general industrial applications where extended reach is required. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. Right-hand cutting with a spiral flute configuration handles aluminum, mild steel, and other common metals encountered in aircraft and industrial repair work. It is a single-piece unit sold individually, making it appropriate for tool crib restocking or field kit use by maintenance technicians and aviation mechanics.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use drill bit for applications requiring a 5/64 inch diameter, 12 inch overall length aircraft extension bit conforming to NAS 907 Type B standards. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at 0.0781 inches diameter.
This bit is installed by a machinist, maintenance technician, or aviation mechanic using a standard keyed or keyless drill chuck. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck before applying power to prevent slippage. Use appropriate cutting fluid for ferrous materials to extend bit life and maintain hole tolerance. Inspect the split point for chipping or wear before each use, as a damaged tip will compromise self-centering accuracy and hole quality.
