The CHICAGO-LATROBE 11056 is a high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling applications where standard-length bits cannot access the workpoint. Built to Series 906 specifications, this bit carries a wire gauge size of 26 with a decimal diameter of 0.147 inches and a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walkout on curved or angled surfaces. The oxide finish provides a base level of surface protection. With a flute length of 1.875 inches and an overall length of 6 inches, this bit is suited for technicians working in tight or extended-reach bores. Right-hand cutting with a spiral flute and tapered, web-thinned construction make it a reliable general-purpose choice for aircraft and structural applications.
This drill bit is used in aerospace maintenance, airframe fabrication, and structural metalworking where extended reach and precision hole sizing are required. The self-centering split point is particularly useful when drilling through sheet metal, aluminum, and mild steel in confined areas. It is well suited for aviation mechanics, MRO facilities, and metal fabrication shops. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks without adapters, making it compatible with handheld and bench-mounted drilling equipment commonly found in trade and production environments.
Meets NAS 907 Type B standards. Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill for use with standard drill chucks accepting a 0.147-inch straight-cylindrical shank in handheld, right-angle, and bench-mounted drilling equipment.
Installation of this drill bit is performed by machinists, aviation mechanics, or metal fabricators using standard drill chuck equipment. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify chuck key removal prior to powering the tool. Maintain appropriate feed rate and cutting speed for the base material to avoid bit deflection or premature wear. Eye protection and chip management practices should follow applicable shop safety standards.
