The CHICAGO-LATROBE 11016 is a high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling applications where a standard-length bit cannot access the work area. Built to Series 906 specifications and compliant with NAS 907 Type B standards, this bit features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on entry. The 9/32-inch (0.2813-inch decimal) diameter, oxide finish, and web-thinned tapered web construction make it well suited for metalworking tasks that demand both reach and precision. Licensed tradespeople and maintenance professionals in aerospace, industrial, and mechanical service environments rely on this type of tool for rivet removal, structural drilling, and tight-clearance work.
The 11016 is a general-purpose aircraft extension drill intended for use in applications requiring extended reach beyond what a jobber-length bit provides. With a 2-15/16-inch flute length and a 6-inch overall length, it fits drilling operations on airframes, structural steel, aluminum assemblies, and similar materials where the drill must reach into recessed or obstructed areas. It is sold individually and suited for both production and field maintenance environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use drill bit compatible with standard 3-jaw drill chucks and drill motors accepting a straight cylindrical shank in 9/32-inch diameter. Meets NAS 907 Type B standards as stated in the product specifications.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists, aviation maintenance technicians, or industrial tradespeople using corded or cordless drill motors with a compatible 3-jaw chuck. Secure the straight cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck before operation and confirm the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement. Always wear appropriate eye protection when drilling metal. Follow applicable shop safety protocols and, in aviation applications, adhere to the relevant maintenance manual procedures for the structure being drilled.
