The CHEMOURS R-454B - DEPOSIT is a 20-pound cylinder of Opteon XL41, an A2L-classified refrigerant designed as a low-GWP replacement for R-410A. It delivers a 78% reduction in global warming potential compared to R-410A while maintaining comparable system capacity and improving efficiency. Discharge temperature is comparable to R-410A, and discharge pressure runs lower, which reduces mechanical stress on system components. The cylinder uses a left-hand threaded connection, consistent with industry standards for flammable refrigerant handling. Licensed HVAC technicians working on residential and light commercial equipment are the primary installers and service professionals for this refrigerant.
Opteon XL41 is suited for use in new equipment designed for A2L refrigerants, including next-generation residential and commercial split systems and heat pumps being developed or released as R-410A alternatives. Its formulation is miscible with POE lubricants already common in R-410A systems, which minimizes lubricant changeover complexity. OEM equipment redesign requirements are reduced compared to other R-410A alternatives, and the operating characteristics are familiar enough to minimize the learning curve for technicians transitioning from R-410A service work.
Designed for use in A2L-rated HVAC equipment engineered or approved for R-454B refrigerant. Not a drop-in replacement for existing R-410A equipment — intended for systems specifically designed or approved by the OEM for R-454B use.
R-454B carries an A2L flammability classification; service must be performed by EPA Section 608-certified technicians following all applicable refrigerant handling regulations. Before recovering or charging refrigerant, de-energize the system and follow lockout/tagout procedures. A2L refrigerants require use of recovery equipment and manifold gauges rated and approved for A2L use — do not use equipment rated solely for A1 refrigerants. Consult ASHRAE 15 and applicable local mechanical codes for storage, venting, and safety requirements when working with A2L classified refrigerants.
