The CGW 48114 is a zirconia resin fibre disc engineered for aggressive material removal on metal, stainless steel, and other hard surfaces. Running at 50 grit, this Type ZIRK disc cuts fast and runs cool, making it a practical choice for grinding, blending, and weld prep work. At 5 inches in diameter with a 7/8-inch arbor hole, it mounts to standard right-angle grinders commonly found on fabrication and job sites. Zirconia alumina grain self-sharpens as it wears, delivering consistent cut rate and extended disc life compared to standard aluminum oxide. Discs are sold in a box of 25, suited to volume work or stocking a service truck.
These discs are used in metal fabrication shops, welding operations, structural steel work, and general industrial grinding applications. The 50-grit designation places them in the coarse range, appropriate for heavy stock removal, paint and rust stripping, and initial weld bead blending. Residential and light commercial contractors also use this disc type for surface prep on ferrous metals ahead of coating or finishing. The 5-inch format is one of the most common sizes across angle grinder platforms in the trades.
Designed as a standard 5-inch resin fibre disc replacement for use with right-angle grinders and disc sanders equipped with a 7/8-inch arbor backing pad.
Fibre discs require a matched backing pad rated for the disc diameter before mounting to an angle grinder. Confirm the grinder RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc maximum RPM before operation. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves. Inspect each disc for cracks or damage before use and discard any disc that shows signs of delamination or edge damage.
