The CGW 42314 is a Type 27 zirconia alumina flap disc designed for aggressive grinding and blending on metal surfaces. Manufactured in the USA under the Z3 product line, this disc measures 4.5 inches in diameter with a 5/8-11 threaded arbor and runs at a 60 grit rating suited for stock removal and surface preparation. The zirconia abrasive grain self-sharpens during use, maintaining a consistent cut rate across the disc life. Sold in boxes of 10, these discs are a standard consumable for metal fabricators, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance welders who need reliable material removal in production environments.
These flap discs are used in structural steel fabrication, weld dressing, pipe prep, and general metal conditioning on mild steel, stainless steel, and similar ferrous metals. The 5/8-11 hub fits directly onto standard right-angle grinders without an adapter. The Type 27 flat profile is suited for flat surfaces and low-angle blending work where a depressed-center disc would create clearance issues.
Designed for use with right-angle grinders equipped with a 5/8-11 spindle thread. Fits standard 4.5-inch grinders from common tool manufacturers. Suitable for grinding and blending mild steel, stainless steel, and similar ferrous metals.
Installation and disc changes must be performed by the equipment operator with the grinder fully powered off and unplugged or battery removed. Inspect the disc for cracks or damage before mounting and do not use a damaged disc. Ensure the grinder RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc RPM rating before operation. Wear appropriate PPE including a face shield, gloves, and hearing protection during use.
