The CGW 42312 is a Type 27 zirconia alumina flap disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal, weld seams, and fabricated steel surfaces. Measuring 4-1/2 inches in diameter with a 5/8-11 threaded hub, it mounts directly to standard angle grinders without an adapter. The 40-grit Z3 zirconia grain cuts fast and self-sharpens under pressure, extending disc life compared to standard aluminum oxide. Manufactured in the USA, the 42312 is sold in boxes of 10 and is well suited for fabrication shops, ironworkers, pipefitters, and maintenance welders who cycle through abrasives at high volume.
This disc is used in metal fabrication, structural steel work, pipe preparation, and weld blending applications. The flat T27 profile keeps the disc face parallel to the workpiece, making it effective for surface grinding, stock removal, and blending on flat and slightly contoured surfaces. The 5/8-11 arbor is the industry-standard thread for 4-1/2-inch angle grinders, so no adapter is needed for most tools in the field. Each box contains 10 discs, supporting continuous production work without frequent reordering.
Designed for use on 4-1/2-inch angle grinders equipped with a 5/8-11 spindle thread. The T27 configuration is compatible with standard right-angle grinders rated for Type 27 depressed-center or flat flap discs.
Installation is performed by threading the 5/8-11 hub directly onto the grinder spindle and tightening by hand until secure against the backing flange. Confirm the grinder RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc maximum RPM before operation. Always wear appropriate eye and face protection, and inspect the disc for damage before mounting. Do not use on grinders without a guard in place.
