The CGW 36231 is a Type 27 depressed center grinding wheel designed for aggressive material removal on steel and ferrous metals. Built to the A24-N-BF bond specification, it uses a 24-grit aluminum oxide abrasive with a normal-grade hardness and resinoid bond for consistent, fast-cutting performance. The wheel measures 6 inches in diameter, 1/4 inch thick, and accepts a 7/8-inch arbor. It is sold in a box of 25 wheels. Fabricators, ironworkers, pipefitters, and maintenance welders reach for this wheel when they need a reliable grinding disc that cuts quickly and holds up under sustained load on a standard angle grinder.
The 36231 is suited for weld dressing, surface grinding, and stock removal on structural steel, pipe, and plate. The depressed center Type 27 profile allows a low grinding angle that keeps the wheel face in full contact with flat and curved workpieces, making it practical for flush grinding and blending weld beads. The A24 grit combination is a common general-purpose choice in fabrication shops, construction sites, pipe yards, and maintenance facilities where high metal removal rate on carbon steel is the priority.
Designed for use on 6-inch angle grinders and right-angle grinders with a 7/8-inch arbor, suitable for grinding carbon steel, structural steel, and general ferrous metal fabrication applications.
Grinding wheel installation and use should follow ANSI B7.1 safety standards and the grinder manufacturer's guidelines. Always inspect the wheel for cracks or chips before mounting and never exceed the maximum RPM rating marked on the wheel. Wear appropriate PPE including a face shield, gloves, and hearing protection during use. Do not use this wheel for cutting operations; it is configured for grinding only.
