The CENTURY DRILL TOOL CO INC 98212 is a 9/16 inch x 18 National Fine thread hexagonal fractional die used for hand threading and rethreading work across a wide range of materials. The die measures 1-7/16 inches across the hex and is manufactured from carbon steel. It is suited for routine maintenance and repair applications where high-precision tolerance is not required. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and general tradespeople reach for this die when restoring or cutting external threads on bolts, studs, and rod stock without the need for a lathe or machine threading setup.
This die is designed for hand threading operations in residential, commercial, and light industrial maintenance settings. It is well matched to repair work where a fastener thread has been damaged or needs to be extended. The hex profile allows it to seat in a standard hexagon die stock for controlled hand operation. When working in confined areas where a die stock cannot be swung freely, the 98212 can also be driven with a wrench or socket, making it practical in tight or awkward installation scenarios.
Designed for use with standard hexagon die stock and compatible with any wrench or socket matching the 1-7/16 inch hex outer diameter. Suitable for hand threading external threads in a variety of materials.
This die is installed and operated by hand using a hex die stock, adjustable wrench, or appropriately sized socket. Before rethreading a fastener or stud, clean away debris, burrs, and corrosion from the work surface. Apply a suitable cutting oil to the die and workpiece to reduce heat and extend die life. Do not force the die through damaged threads in a single pass — back the die off periodically to clear chips.
