The CENTURY DRILL TOOL CO INC 96208 is a 7/16-20 National Fine (NF) fractional hex die designed for hand cutting external threads on bolts, studs, and round stock. The die measures 1 inch across the flats, fitting standard hex die stocks used in plumbing, mechanical, and general trade work. Threads are precision cut and accurately formed to deliver consistent, exact threading results. The tool is heat treated and tempered to file-hard hardness, extending service life and maintaining thread accuracy across repeated use. Package quantity is 2 dies per unit.
This hex die is suited for hand-cutting 7/16-20 NF threads in field and shop settings. Typical applications include threading replacement fasteners, repair studs, or custom-length bolts where pre-threaded stock is unavailable. The 7/16-20 NF thread specification is common in automotive, HVAC equipment fastening, and general mechanical assemblies requiring a fine-pitch thread for tighter clamping loads. The compact hex geometry allows use in tight spaces with a standard tap wrench or die stock.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard hex die for use with hand die stocks accepting a 1-inch hex die body in 7/16-20 NF thread size.
Installation is performed by hand using a standard hex die stock or adjustable die holder. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the die is started square to the stock to avoid crossed or damaged threads. Apply cutting oil to the die and workpiece throughout the threading operation to reduce heat buildup and extend die life. No power tools are required or recommended for hand-cut die applications.
