The CENTURY DRILL TOOL CO INC 97606 is a metric hexagon die designed for hand cutting external threads on metal rod, bolt blanks, and fastener stock. Sized at 5.0mm diameter with a 0.80mm thread pitch, it produces consistent, accurate threads suited to standard M5 metric fastener applications. The die is heat treated and tempered to achieve file-hard thread cutting edges, improving both thread quality and service life. Sold in a package of two, it is a practical shop consumable for machinists, pipefitters, electricians, and general trade mechanics who cut metric threads by hand in the field or at the bench.
This die is intended for hand threading applications using a standard die stock or tap-and-die handle. It suits light-duty to medium-duty work on mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials where an M5 x 0.80 metric thread form is required. Typical uses include repairing damaged fastener threads, fabricating custom-length bolts, and threading rod stock during mechanical or electrical equipment assembly and maintenance.
Designed as an OEM-style hand threading die for use with standard hexagon die stocks sized to accept a 5.0mm metric die body.
A licensed mechanic, machinist, or qualified tradesperson should select the correct die stock to match the die body hex dimensions before use. Secure the workpiece firmly in a vise before beginning thread cutting. Apply cutting oil to the die and workpiece to reduce heat and improve thread finish. Back the die off periodically during cutting to break chips and prevent binding or die damage.
