The CENTURY DRILL TOOL CO INC 97316 is an M10 x 1.25 metric plug-style tap designed for hand cutting internal threads in metal, plastic, and similar materials. Plug taps sit between a taper tap and a bottoming tap in the standard tapping sequence, making them the most common choice for through-hole threading and moderately deep blind holes. Threads are precision cut and accurately formed to deliver consistent, exact thread profiles on every use. The tap is heat treated and tempered to achieve file-hard thread flanks, which extends service life and maintains accuracy over repeated use. Each package contains 2 taps.
This tap is suited for maintenance, repair, and fabrication work where M10 x 1.25 fine-pitch metric threads are required. Common applications include automotive and equipment repair, machinery maintenance, and general metalworking. The M10 x 1.25 pitch is a fine-thread specification frequently encountered in automotive fastener applications where standard M10 x 1.5 coarse pitch is not specified. It is intended for hand tapping with a standard tap wrench and is not designed for machine or power-feed tapping operations.
Designed for hand-tapping applications requiring M10 x 1.25 metric internal threads in materials such as steel, aluminum, and similar workpiece metals.
Use a calibrated tap wrench sized appropriately for the tap shank to maintain axial alignment during cutting. Drill the correct tap drill size for M10 x 1.25 threads before tapping and deburr the hole entry to reduce tap stress. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Back the tap off periodically to break chips and prevent tap breakage in blind holes.
