The CENTURY DRILL TOOL CO INC 95114 is a 9/16 inch x 18 National Fine (NF) thread fractional hand tap made from carbon steel. It is designed for hand threading work across a variety of materials, producing a Class 2B thread. The straight flutes are ground to promote rapid chip removal, which keeps the threading operation clean and efficient. This tap is suited to routine maintenance and repair applications where extremely high accuracy tolerances are not the primary requirement, making it a practical shop and field tool for machinists, maintenance technicians, and general trades workers who need reliable rethreading capability.
This tap is intended for use in routine maintenance, repair, and rethreading tasks in residential, commercial, and light industrial settings. It excels when restoring damaged threads or cutting new NF threads in a range of common materials. The hand-tap format means it is driven manually with a tap wrench rather than a machine, giving the user direct feel and control during the threading process. A 33/64 inch drill bit is required to prepare the correct tap drill hole before threading. The package includes 12 taps per unit.
Designed as a general-purpose fractional hand tap for cutting or restoring 9/16 inch x 18 National Fine threads. Requires a 33/64 inch tap drill bit for proper hole preparation prior to threading.
This tap is installed by hand using a standard tap wrench. Before threading, drill the tap hole to 33/64 inches to achieve the correct minor diameter for a Class 2B fit. Apply cutting fluid or tapping oil appropriate to the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Back the tap out periodically during threading to break and clear chips, and avoid forcing the tap, which can cause breakage.
