The CENTURY DRILL TOOL CO INC 11429 is a No. 29 wire gauge straight shank drill bit made from high speed steel (HSS). It features a precision ground 118-degree point angle suited for general purpose drilling in wood, metal, and plastic. This package includes 3 bits, making it practical for job sites where bit wear or breakage is common. The straight shank design fits standard keyed and keyless chucks on both stationary drill presses and portable handheld drills. Licensed tradespeople and experienced DIYers alike use wire gauge bits when hole size must match a numbered drill chart for tapping, reaming, or close-tolerance work.
Wire gauge bits in the No. 29 size are commonly used when drilling pilot holes for 8-32 machine screw tapping operations in metal fabrication, HVAC sheet metal work, electrical panel work, and plumbing fixture installation. The 118-degree point geometry is an all-purpose grind that starts quickly on flat and curved surfaces without the need for a center punch in most materials. Using a cutting lubricant when drilling steel will reduce heat buildup and extend the cutting life of each bit.
Designed for use in standard keyed or keyless chucks on portable drills and stationary drill presses that accept straight shank bits.
Wire gauge drill bits are installed and changed by HVAC technicians, electricians, plumbers, and general tradespeople. Always power down and unplug or lock out the drill before changing bits. Apply a cutting lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to reduce heat and extend bit life. Wear appropriate eye protection per job site safety requirements.
