The CARRIER FS-FLNR40 is a 40-amp time-delay fuse designed for use in HVAC and refrigeration equipment where temporary motor startup inrush currents would otherwise trip a standard fast-acting fuse. The time-delay characteristic allows motors and compressors to reach operating speed without nuisance openings, while still providing reliable overcurrent protection against sustained fault conditions. Licensed electricians and HVAC technicians install this fuse as part of disconnect or fused service equipment servicing compressor and air handler circuits.
This fuse is suited for residential and light commercial HVAC systems that require Class RK5 or equivalent time-delay overcurrent protection in a branch circuit disconnect. It is commonly specified where equipment manufacturer documentation calls for a dual-element, time-delay fuse at or near the rated ampacity of the connected load. Applications include condensing unit disconnects, rooftop unit service sections, and refrigeration equipment fuse holders.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement time-delay fuse for use in HVAC and refrigeration equipment disconnect assemblies requiring a 40-amp dual-element fuse.
Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician or qualified HVAC technician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and all applicable local codes. Always disconnect and lock out power at the main panel before servicing fuse holders or disconnect equipment. Verify that the fuse holder is rated for the fuse class and ampacity before installing. Never replace a time-delay fuse with a fast-acting fuse of any amperage, as this may allow nuisance openings or fail to protect the equipment properly.
