The CARRIER 40mbcaq48xa3 is a 4-ton, 48,000 BTU/h ductless ceiling cassette fan coil unit designed for single-zone heat pump systems operating on R-410A refrigerant. It runs on 208-230 VAC single-phase, 60 Hz power and uses an Electronic Expansion Valve (EEV) for precise refrigerant metering. The unit mounts flush in a suspended ceiling and connects to a matched outdoor condensing unit via refrigerant tubing and low-voltage wiring. The PSC blower motor delivers 935 to 1,288 CFM across four speeds, covering both cooling and heating modes. Licensed HVAC technicians perform installation in commercial or residential applications where ceiling plenum space is available. The grille (40MBCQ02XXX4) is sold separately.
This cassette fan coil is suited for retrofit and modernization projects where a false or suspended ceiling exists and ductwork is absent or impractical. Typical applications include office additions, family room expansions, spaces currently heated by hydronic or electric systems with no existing ductwork, and historically sensitive buildings where invasive duct installation is not feasible. It operates as a single-zone, non-multi-zone indoor unit paired with a compatible Carrier or Bryant outdoor condensing unit. Cooling capacity is rated at 48,000 BTU/h, and heating capacity spans 11,850 to 52,000 BTU/h depending on operating conditions.
Designed for use with compatible Carrier and Bryant matched outdoor condensing units in a single-zone R-410A heat pump configuration. The decorative grille model 40MBCQ02XXX4 is sold separately and required for a finished installation.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician certified to handle R-410A refrigerant in accordance with EPA Section 608 regulations. Disconnect and lock out all electrical power before accessing refrigerant connections or performing any wiring work. The unit requires adequate ceiling plenum depth to accommodate its 11.3-inch height, and the drain connection (3/4 inch) must be routed to an appropriate condensate drain line per local mechanical codes. Do not operate the system without verifying that refrigerant line sizes, flare connections, and electrical supply match the equipment specifications.
