The CARRIER 40mbcaq36xa3 is a 3-ton in-ceiling cassette fan coil unit rated at 36,000 BTU/h for both cooling and heating, designed for use with a matched R-410A ductless heat pump system. Operating on 208-230 VAC single-phase 60 Hz power, it connects to the outdoor condensing unit via refrigerant tubing and low-voltage wiring only — no ductwork required. The PSC blower motor runs at up to four speeds and delivers between 753 and 1,041 CFM in cooling mode and 1,176 CFM in heating mode. Licensed HVAC technicians install this unit in ceiling cassette applications where a false or suspended ceiling is present. The unit ships with a remote control included.
This ceiling cassette fan coil is engineered for retrofit and modernization projects in both residential and light commercial spaces. It is well-suited for add-on rooms such as offices, family rooms, and server spaces, as well as any conditioned area that lacks existing ductwork and is currently served by hydronic or electric heat. Historical renovation projects and spaces with special architectural constraints are also common installation scenarios. The cassette mounts flush with the ceiling plane for a low-profile, discrete installation. The 40mbcaq36xa3 is a single-zone unit and is not rated for multi-zone configurations.
Part of the CARRIER 40MBCAQ product family. Designed for use with a compatible matched outdoor condensing unit in a single-zone ductless heat pump configuration. Note: the 40MBCQ02XXX4 grille is sold separately and is not included with this unit.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician holding EPA Section 608 certification for R-410A refrigerant handling. Power must be disconnected at the disconnect and breaker before mounting or making electrical connections. The unit requires a false or suspended ceiling with adequate structural support for a unit weighing approximately 59.97 pounds. Condensate drainage must be routed per local mechanical codes; verify drain line slope and connection to the 3/4 inch drain port before commissioning the system.
