The CARRIER 13S is a single-zone, cooling-only outdoor condensing unit designed for commercial and light-commercial applications where three-phase power is available. Rated at 57,000 BTU/h (5 tons) with a SEER of 13, it operates on 460 volts, 3-phase, 60 Hz power. The unit uses R-410A refrigerant and a scroll compressor paired with a PSC condenser motor running at 850 RPM. Refrigerant metering is handled by a TXV, supporting precise capacity control under varying load conditions. A licensed HVAC technician installs and commissions this unit as part of a split cooling system.
This unit is part of the Carrier Performance Series, designed to balance cost and capability for cooling-only installations. It connects to the 40QAC underceiling-mounted indoor unit with line lengths of up to 250 feet, making it well-suited for warehouses, retail spaces, and other large commercial interiors where refrigerant routing distances are a consideration. The system is single-zone and not inverter-driven, operating at a fixed-speed capacity for straightforward zone control.
Designed to connect with the Carrier 40QAC underceiling-mounted indoor unit as part of a cooling-only split system configuration.
Installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician holding an EPA Section 608 certification for R-410A refrigerant handling. Disconnect all power at the service panel before making electrical connections, and verify that the supply voltage matches the unit's 460V, 3-phase requirement before energizing. Follow all applicable local mechanical and electrical codes, including ASHRAE 15 for refrigerant system safety. Confirm refrigerant line sizing matches the specified suction and liquid line diameters before startup.
