The CARRHILL PRA112 is an anodeless transition riser designed to connect medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) gas distribution pipe to above-grade steel piping systems. The fitting transitions from a 1.5-inch male iron pipe thread (MIPT) steel connection to an MDPE plastic gas main, eliminating the need for a traditional anode assembly. It is installed by plumbers and gas fitting professionals on residential and light commercial natural gas or propane service lines where the underground polyethylene pipe surfaces at grade level.
This transition riser is suited for underground gas distribution systems where MDPE plastic piping transitions to a threaded steel riser above ground. Typical applications include residential gas meter sets, service line risers, and similar natural gas or LP gas piping configurations where a code-compliant, corrosion-resistant transition fitting is required at the point of emergence.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for residential and light commercial gas piping systems using MDPE underground distribution pipe with a 1.5-inch MIPT steel above-grade connection.
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber or gas fitter in accordance with applicable local codes and the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC). Shut off and verify gas pressure is relieved at the service before beginning work. Thread sealant or tape rated for gas service should be applied to the MIPT connection. Do not over-torque the steel threaded joint or apply heat to the MDPE portion of the riser during installation.
