The CARRHILL PR34 is a 3/4 inch gas transition riser designed to connect steel MIPT (Male Iron Pipe Thread) pipe to medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) gas distribution tubing. This fitting bridges the transition between underground MDPE service lines and above-ground steel piping at the meter or appliance entry point. The PR34 ships without an anode, making it suited for installations where cathodic protection is handled separately or is not required by local code. Licensed plumbers and gas fitters are the primary installers for this type of fitting in both residential and light commercial natural gas service applications.
The PR34 is used at service riser locations where MDPE gas distribution pipe terminates above grade and connects to a threaded steel riser. Typical applications include residential gas meter sets, underground-to-above-grade gas service transitions, and new gas service installations. The 3/4 inch size accommodates standard residential gas service entry sizing. This fitting does not include an anode for sacrificial cathodic protection, so the installer must evaluate corrosion protection requirements per applicable local and national codes before installation.
Designed as an OEM-style transition fitting for standard 3/4 inch MDPE gas distribution piping systems connecting to 3/4 inch MIPT steel above-grade gas risers.
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber or certified gas fitter in accordance with the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) and all applicable local gas codes. Shut off gas service at the meter or service valve and verify zero pressure before beginning any work on the riser or distribution piping. Inspect all threads for damage before assembly and apply an approved pipe thread sealant rated for gas service on the MIPT connection. Since this fitting ships without an anode, evaluate cathodic protection requirements for the MDPE side per local utility and code requirements before burial.
