The CARRHILL PR114 is a gas transition riser designed to connect steel male iron pipe thread (MIPT) piping to medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) gas distribution lines. This fitting bridges the transition between metallic and plastic gas piping systems, a common requirement at meter sets, service entrances, and underground-to-aboveground gas line terminations. The PR114 ships without an anode, making it appropriate for installations where cathodic protection is handled separately or is not required by local code. Licensed plumbers and gas fitters are the typical installing trade for this component.
This transition riser is suited for residential and light commercial natural gas and propane distribution applications. It is commonly installed at the point where a buried MDPE gas main transitions to an aboveground steel service riser feeding a meter or appliance connection. The 1.25-inch MIPT connection on the steel end accommodates standard iron pipe fittings and valves. Installers should verify local utility and code requirements regarding anode requirements before selecting this no-anode configuration.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for gas distribution systems using 1.25-inch MIPT steel connections transitioning to MDPE plastic gas pipe. Verify local utility specifications and applicable code requirements before installation.
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified gas fitter in accordance with the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) and applicable local regulations. Shut off gas supply and verify zero pressure at the line before making any connections. Apply approved thread sealant rated for gas service to all MIPT connections. Do not use pipe dope or sealants on the MDPE transition end unless the product is specifically approved for plastic gas fittings.
