The CARRHILL PR112 is a gas transition riser designed to connect steel male iron pipe thread (MIPT) piping to medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) gas distribution pipe. This fitting bridges the transition between metallic and plastic gas supply systems, a common requirement where underground MDPE service lines terminate above grade and connect to a steel service entrance or meter set assembly. At 1.5 inches, it handles typical residential and light commercial gas service sizes. Licensed plumbers and gas fitters install this component as part of a compliant gas piping system. This riser does not include an anode, so cathodic protection requirements must be addressed separately per applicable codes.
The PR112 is suited for natural gas and LP distribution systems where MDPE plastic pipe transitions to threaded steel above or at grade. It is commonly used at meter sets, service risers, and building entry points in residential and light commercial gas installations. The 1.5-inch MIPT connection mates directly to standard threaded steel pipe, while the MDPE side accepts medium-density polyethylene distribution tubing of the corresponding size.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for 1.5-inch MIPT steel to MDPE gas transition applications in residential and light commercial gas distribution systems.
Installation must be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified gas fitter in accordance with IFGC, local gas codes, and utility requirements. Shut off gas supply and verify the line is fully depressurized before making any connections. Apply thread sealant rated for gas service to all MIPT connections. Because this riser is supplied without an anode, the installer is responsible for ensuring cathodic protection of the steel-to-plastic transition meets all applicable code and utility requirements.
