The CARMEX S0625E162.5ISO is a straight flute internal thread mill designed for cutting M20x2.5 metric coarse threads in a single helical pass. Built from solid carbide with a TiAlN coating, it delivers high wear resistance and extended tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The tool carries a 0.591-inch cutting diameter, a 5/8-inch shank diameter, and a 1.69-inch length of cut, giving it the reach needed for through-holes and deeper blind bores at the M20 pitch. With 5 flutes and a Mini thread mill classification, it is suited for CNC machining centers where rigid fixturing and controlled feeds are standard practice. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and tool room technicians working in production or job-shop environments.
This thread mill is used on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers for internal metric coarse thread production. It is particularly effective in applications where a single tool must produce the thread form in one interpolation cycle, eliminating the need for a tap and reducing the risk of tap breakage in hard or difficult-to-machine materials. Typical applications include threading bores in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and aluminum workpieces. The 4-inch overall length provides clearance for standard spindle setups, and the solid carbide construction supports use at higher cutting speeds compared to HSS alternatives.
Designed for CNC machining center use producing M20x2.5 metric coarse internal threads. Compatible with standard 5/8-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic toolholders accepting a 0.625-inch shank diameter.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Secure the shank in a 5/8-inch precision toolholder and verify runout before engaging the cut, as excessive runout will damage the thread form and shorten tool life. Program the CNC controller for helical interpolation at the correct pitch - do not use this tool in a straight plunge or on a manual machine. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the tool at the first sign of chipping or coating wear to avoid thread quality issues.
