The CARMEX C18C90MT7 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to C18 series geometry with a C90 insert style, this right-hand insert features a PVD-applied TiAlN coating over a submicron carbide substrate, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. The MT7 grade targets cast iron and similar K-group workpiece materials. Cutting width is 0.7 inches, maximum depth of cut is 0.043 inches, and the corner radius is 0.004 inches. Each insert is sold individually. This insert is intended for use by machinists and CNC tooling professionals working in production and job-shop environments.
The C18C90MT7 is suited for grooving operations on cast iron components in automotive, general manufacturing, and heavy-equipment machining applications. The TiAlN PVD coating performs well in dry and semi-dry cutting conditions, which are common when machining cast iron to control chip contamination and extend tool life. The 0.043-inch maximum depth of cut makes this insert appropriate for shallow grooving, undercutting, and parting operations where tight tolerances and consistent surface finish are required. This insert is a single-use, non-reversible tooling consumable and is not designed for multi-use or indexing to alternate edges.
Designed for use with C18 series grooving toolholders conforming to ISO standards. Insert style is C18 C90 with size code 18C90. Primary workpiece material designation is K-group, covering cast iron. Confirm toolholder seating and clamping compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench or clamping key specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or wear before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and accurate cutting geometry.
