The CARMEX 3/8INRHAG60MXC is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for right-hand internal threading operations. Built to a partial profile 60-degree thread standard, this insert covers a thread pitch range of 48 to 8 TPI (0.50 to 3.00 mm pitch), making it a versatile single insert for a broad range of internal thread forms. The insert features a 3/8-inch inscribed circle (IC), measures 0.146 inches thick, and carries a TiN (titanium nitride) coating applied via PVD process for improved wear resistance. It is classified under insert style 16IR and carries manufacturer grade MXC/GOLD. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible toolholders for production and maintenance threading work.
This insert is suited for internal threading on a wide range of workpiece materials, including steels (P), stainless steels (M), cast irons (K), high-temperature alloys (S), non-ferrous materials (N), and hardened materials (H). Its partial profile 60-degree geometry makes it appropriate for both inch and metric thread forms that share a 60-degree included angle, reducing the number of inserts needed across mixed-material shops. Typical applications include threading bores in components across general machining, aerospace, and industrial fabrication environments.
Designed for use in 16IR-style internal threading toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch IC laydown insert. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping requirements before installation. No specific brand toolholder models were identified in the product data.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination can cause improper seating and premature insert failure. Verify thread pitch and TPI settings in the machine control before beginning any threading pass.
