The CARMEX 3/8EXRH8UNP2 is a laydown-style threading insert designed for right-hand external UN thread cutting at 8 threads per inch. Built from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiN coating, this 16 ER-style insert delivers consistent thread form geometry on a wide range of workpiece materials. The 60-degree included angle conforms to UN thread standards, and the P25C manufacturer grade makes it well-suited for general-purpose CNC turning applications. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.146 inches, it fits standard 16 ER toolholders used in production threading operations. Machinists and CNC operators running UN-profile threads across ferrous and non-ferrous stock will find this insert a reliable choice for both roughing and semi-finish passes.
This insert is intended for external threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Its universal primary workpiece material rating covers a broad spectrum including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is suited for production threading in job shop and industrial manufacturing environments where consistent 8 TPI UN thread profiles are required. The insert ships individually and carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard 16 ER external threading toolholders accepting laydown-style inserts. Compatible with toolholders configured for 3/8-inch inscribed circle 16 ER threading inserts used in right-hand external UN thread applications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamping-screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert without over-torquing the clamping screw. Verify insert seating and thread pitch with a thread gauge before resuming production cuts.
