The CARMEX 16ER20UNJMXC is a laydown-style threading insert engineered for external thread turning operations. Designed for use in CNC lathes and manual turning centers, this carbide insert produces UNJ-profile threads with a controlled root radius as specified by the UNJ standard. The MXC grade designation indicates a coated carbide substrate selected for threading performance on a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. At 0.05 pounds, the insert is lightweight and sized for standard ER-style laydown toolholders. It is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC operators as a consumable cutting tool.
This insert is suited for threading applications in precision machining environments where UNJ thread forms are required, such as aerospace and defense component manufacturing. The 20 threads-per-inch pitch makes it appropriate for medium-pitch external threading passes on turned parts. It is used in production and job-shop settings where repeatable thread form accuracy and insert interchangeability are priorities.
Designed as a replacement threading insert for use in ER-style laydown threading toolholders compatible with the 16ER insert seat size.
Threading inserts are installed and changed by qualified machinists following the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the toolholder is clear of the workpiece before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Handle carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edge prior to use.
