The CANTEX 5144042 is a two-piece PVC expansion coupling designed to compensate for length changes caused by temperature variations in exposed rigid PVC conduit runs. Rated for Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 conduit, it accommodates up to 8 inches of expansion and contraction without stressing fittings or conduit bodies. The overall assembly measures 6.625 inches in diameter by 26.375 inches in length (minimum). Licensed electricians and electrical contractors install this coupling on above-grade and outdoor conduit systems where thermal movement must be managed to maintain system integrity and code compliance.
This expansion coupling is used in commercial, industrial, and utility electrical installations where long straight runs of rigid PVC conduit are exposed to significant ambient temperature swings. Typical applications include rooftop conduit runs, parking structure wiring, exterior building risers, and any above-grade installation subject to direct sun and seasonal temperature changes. The 6-inch trade size suits larger feeder and service conduit runs. It is manufactured in the USA and carries UL and CSA approval for use in applications requiring listed fittings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation fitting for 6-inch trade size Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 rigid PVC conduit systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with NEC Article 352 requirements for rigid PVC conduit and applicable local codes. De-energize all circuits in the conduit before beginning work. PVC conduit solvent cement appropriate for the schedule and conduit diameter should be used to secure the coupling halves per the manufacturer instructions. Expansion couplings must be anchored on both sides per NEC guidelines to ensure the coupling can move freely and perform its intended function.
