The CAMCO MFG 10623 is a two-pack of dielectric nipples designed to prevent galvanic corrosion at water heater connections and other plumbing points where dissimilar metals meet. Each nipple measures 3/4-inch male pipe thread (MPT) on both ends with a 2.5-inch male iron pipe length. A thermoplastic lining electrically isolates the metal pipe sections, stopping the electrochemical reaction that degrades fittings over time. Licensed plumbers and water heater installers use these nipples as a standard fitting on both the cold-water inlet and hot-water outlet connections of residential and light-commercial water heaters.
These dielectric nipples are suited for residential and light-commercial plumbing systems wherever copper or plastic pipe connects to a steel or iron component. The most common application is at water heater tank ports, where the thermoplastic-lined body bridges dissimilar metal junctions that would otherwise accelerate corrosion and shorten equipment life. They are also appropriate for any potable-water piping system where code or best practice requires dielectric isolation between unlike metals.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement fitting for residential and light-commercial water heater inlet and outlet connections, and for any plumbing application where dissimilar metals occur in the piping system.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure before removing existing fittings. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before installation — do not over-tighten, as the thermoplastic lining can be damaged by excessive torque. Verify that the completed connection meets local code requirements for dielectric isolation in potable-water systems.
