The CAMCO 11611 is a 42-inch aluminum anode rod with dielectric nipples, designed for use in residential and light commercial hot water heaters. The anode rod protects the tank lining from corrosive electrochemical reactions by acting as a sacrificial metal element — it corrodes preferentially, extending the service life of the tank. At 5/8 inch outside diameter with a 3/4-14 thread, it installs into the standard anode port found on most tank-style water heaters. Plumbers and water heater service technicians replace this rod as part of routine maintenance or when inspecting a tank for early corrosion signs.
This rod is suited for residential tank-style water heaters where the original anode has depleted or where a replacement with dielectric nipples is required to reduce galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals at the connection point. The 42-inch length accommodates full-size tank installations. Aluminum construction makes it a practical choice in areas with hard or softened water where magnesium rods may produce hydrogen sulfide odor issues. The 3/4-14 thread matches the port sizing used across a wide range of standard hot water heater tanks.
Designed as a replacement anode rod for residential and light commercial tank-style hot water heaters equipped with a standard 3/4-14 anode port.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified water heater technicians. Before servicing, shut off the cold water supply and disconnect power to electric heaters or set gas heaters to the pilot position. A socket wrench with a 1-1/16 inch socket is typically required to remove and seat the anode rod. Apply thread sealant tape to the threads before installation and do not overtighten, as this can damage the tank port.
