The CAMCO 10634 is a dielectric nipple designed to isolate dissimilar metals in water piping systems, preventing galvanic corrosion at connection points. Each nipple measures 3/4 inch NPT on both ends and extends 5 inches in length, providing a reliable barrier between copper and steel pipe sections. Sold in a 2-count card, this part is a standard stock item for plumbers servicing water heaters, boilers, and potable water supply lines where metal transition fittings are required. The dielectric construction interrupts the electrical current path that drives galvanic corrosion, extending system service life at every dissimilar-metal joint.
Dielectric nipples are used wherever copper tubing connects to a steel-threaded port, most commonly at water heater inlet and outlet connections in residential and light commercial applications. The 3/4 inch NPT thread size matches the standard inlet and outlet port dimensions found on the majority of residential tank water heaters. Plumbers also install these at boiler supply and return connections, storage tank fittings, and anywhere a copper-to-iron transition is made in a domestic hot or cold water system.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement dielectric nipple for residential and light commercial water heaters, boilers, and potable water supply systems using 3/4 inch NPT threaded connections.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and drain pressure from the line before removing existing fittings. Use a pipe wrench and thread-seal tape or pipe dope rated for potable water on all NPT connections. Do not over-tighten; standard NPT engagement is typically 3 to 4 turns hand-tight plus wrench turns to seat, but follow local code and fitting manufacturer guidance rather than any specific torque value.
