The BURNDY J990 is a rectangular tin plated copper bail designed for use with hot line clamp adapters in overhead electrical distribution work. Measuring 4.25 inches wide by 4.11 inches tall, it is built to accommodate aluminum and copper conductors ranging from 6 AWG to 250 KCMIL, as well as ACSR conductors up to 266.8 KCMIL. The J990 bail is intended for use with Hycrimp, Cabelok Crimpit, or Figure 6 Shaped Crimpit compression connectors. It is manufactured in the United States and is RoHS compatible. Installation crews working energized lines and linemen performing live-line maintenance are the primary users of this component.
The J990 bail is used in overhead utility and distribution line applications where energized conductors must be accessed safely using hot sticks. When hot sticks are required, the Cabelok Crimpit or Figure 6 Shaped Crimpit connectors are the recommended pairing. The connector and bail can be held in the tool and the line approached directly, supporting live-line installation procedures. This part is suited for both utility and industrial electrical distribution environments where aluminum, copper, or ACSR conductors are present.
Designed for use with Hycrimp, Cabelok Crimpit, and Figure 6 Shaped Crimpit compression connectors as part of a hot line clamp adapter assembly. Compatible with aluminum and copper conductors from 6 AWG to 250 KCMIL and ACSR conductors up to 266.8 KCMIL.
Installation on energized overhead conductors must be performed by qualified linemen following applicable OSHA and NFPA 70E live-line work procedures. De-energizing the circuit is strongly preferred; when live-line work is required, appropriate hot stick tools and personal protective equipment must be used. Do not attempt to install this bail without the proper crimping tool and connector combination specified for the conductor size being worked. Verify conductor size and type before selecting the appropriate Crimpit connector to pair with this bail.
