The BURNDY bipc35010sc is a mechanical insulation piercing connector rated for copper and aluminum conductors, designed for splicing, tapping, and dead-ending applications in electrical distribution work. It accommodates run conductors from 1/0 to 350 kcmil and tap conductors from 1/0 to 350 kcmil. The connector is AL9CU rated for copper and aluminum combinations up to 90 degrees C in 600-volt applications. Engineered shear bolt technology delivers consistent torque without requiring specialized tools beyond a 6-point socket impact driver, making installation repeatable and reliable in the field.
This connector is suited for overhead covered conductor taps, bare conductor taps, service entrance connections, metering connections, and lighting system work. Its insulation piercing design eliminates the need for cable stripping, conductor brushing, inhibitor application, or post-installation taping, reducing labor time significantly. Licensed electricians performing primary and secondary distribution splices, utility metering work, and overhead service connections are the primary installers. The single connector body supports tap, splice, or dead-end configurations, reducing the number of SKUs required on a job.
Rated for copper and aluminum conductor combinations with a run range of 1/0 to 350 kcmil and a tap range of 1/0 to 350 kcmil, suitable for overhead covered and bare conductor applications, service and metering connections, and lighting system work up to 600 volts.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians in accordance with the NEC. De-energize and lock out the circuit before installing or removing this connector. Use a 6-point socket impact driver — do not use open-end or adjustable tools that may round the shear bolt head. No taping is required after installation; the insulation piercing design provides the necessary seal and isolation.
