The BSC PREFERRED VHB490501R is a very high bond tape designed to replace traditional mechanical fasteners such as rivets, bolts, screws, spot-welds, and liquid adhesives in demanding bonding applications. Constructed with a clear acrylic core and acrylic adhesive on a red polyethylene film liner, this tape delivers structural-grade holding strength while remaining virtually invisible on clear substrates. It resists moisture, solvents, and UV exposure, and maintains adhesive integrity across a temperature range of -40 degrees F to 200 degrees F. Installers in glazing, signage, and building envelope trades rely on this tape where clean, permanent bonding is required without hardware or mess.
This VHB tape is well suited for sealing skylight inner and outer domes, mounting back-lit translucent signs, and edge-bonding resin-filled glass panels. Its clear, colorless construction makes it the preferred choice for applications where tape visibility would be unacceptable. Recommended substrates include glass and acrylics. Typical install scenarios include commercial glazing work, architectural signage installation, and skylight fabrication or field repair. The tape ships as a single roll unit and is handled by glaziers, sign fabricators, and general construction tradespeople.
Designed for bonding glass and acrylic surfaces in skylight assemblies, back-lit translucent signage, and resin-filled glass edge-bonding applications where a clear or colorless adhesive is required.
Surface preparation is critical for maximum bond strength - clean substrates thoroughly with an appropriate solvent cleaner and allow surfaces to dry completely before application. Apply firm, uniform pressure along the full tape length to ensure full contact between adhesive and substrate. Allow adequate dwell time before loading the bond joint, as VHB tape reaches full strength over time after application. Follow applicable building codes and manufacturer data sheet guidelines for structural bonding applications.
