The BSC PREFERRED 762861 is a 1-pound box of exterior-grade, star drive wood screws designed for outdoor fastening applications in decks, fencing, siding, and general exterior construction. The 6-lobed star drive socket delivers fast bit engagement and improved torque control compared to Phillips or square drive profiles. A countersinking bugle head seats flush without surface protrusion, leaving a clean finish. Each screw features an extra coarse thread and a Type 17 cutting point for reliable penetration in dimensional lumber. The PrimeGuard Plus polymer coating provides corrosion resistance against moisture and outdoor exposure.
These screws are well suited for residential and light commercial exterior applications. They perform in pressure treated lumber, cedar, and redwood, though BSC PREFERRED notes that cedar and redwood may streak or stain when used with any coated fastener. For those species, stainless steel fasteners are strongly recommended. Typical applications include deck boards, fence pickets and rails, exterior trim, and lap siding installation. Package counts are approximate.
Designed for use with pressure treated lumber, cedar, redwood, and standard dimensional lumber in exterior decking, fencing, siding, and general outdoor construction projects.
Installation is performed by carpenters, general contractors, and experienced DIYers using a star drive (T-star) bit matched to the screw head size. Drive at consistent speed to avoid overdriving and splitting lumber, particularly near board ends. When fastening pressure treated lumber, always follow current building code requirements for corrosion-resistant fasteners, as some preservative treatments accelerate corrosion on standard coated fasteners. Cedar and redwood users should evaluate stainless steel alternatives to prevent tannin staining around fastener heads.
