The BROWNING 1090166 is a BX-section cogged V-belt designed for power transmission applications requiring high efficiency and heat resistance. Rated at 98% efficiency, this notched belt delivers reliable torque transfer in HVAC, agricultural, and industrial drive systems. The cogged construction reduces bending resistance and heat buildup, allowing the belt to run cooler and last longer than standard wrapped belts of the same section. Built with an EPDM rubber outer layer, polyester tensile cords, and nylon reinforcement, it is rated for operating temperatures up to 230 degrees F. The 165-inch outside length and BX cross-section make it a fit for a range of single-band sheave-driven applications. Licensed HVAC technicians and industrial mechanics are the typical installers.
This belt is suited for residential and light commercial HVAC blower drives, refrigeration condensing units, and general-purpose industrial machinery where a BX-section cogged belt is specified. The cogged profile improves flexibility on smaller-diameter sheaves and allows compatibility with standard BX-profile grooved pulleys. Applications with elevated ambient temperatures or heavy-duty cycling benefit from the EPDM compound and polyester tensile layer, which resist heat degradation and stretching over extended service intervals.
Designed as a direct replacement for BX162-profile cogged V-belts used in standard BX-section sheave-driven systems across HVAC, refrigeration, and general industrial drive applications.
Installation is typically performed by licensed HVAC technicians or qualified mechanics. Always de-energize and lock out the equipment before removing or installing drive belts. Never pry the belt over sheave flanges using tools that can nick or cut the belt carcass — release drive tension using the motor adjustment rail before seating the new belt. Verify sheave alignment and check for sheave wear before installation to prevent premature belt failure.
