The BROWNING 1045236 is a variable pitch sheave designed for belt-driven mechanical systems in HVAC, industrial, and commercial equipment applications. Constructed from cast iron, this single-groove sheave features a 0.5-inch bore (inside diameter) and a 2.87-inch outside diameter. The variable pitch design allows the technician to adjust the effective pitch diameter within a defined range, enabling fine-tuning of driven equipment speed without changing the belt or pulley. It is compatible with 3L belt section types. Sheave thickness measures 1-11/16 inches, and the face width adjusts from 17/32 to 25/32 inches across its pitch range. This part is typically installed by HVAC technicians or millwrights performing blower and fan drive adjustments.
This sheave is suited for residential and light commercial HVAC blower assemblies, ventilation fans, and similar belt-drive applications where motor-to-load speed ratios require periodic adjustment. Variable pitch sheaves are commonly used on supply and return fan drives where airflow balancing is needed after installation. The 3L belt section compatibility makes this sheave a practical fit for smaller fractional-horsepower drive configurations found in air handlers, rooftop units, and fan coil equipment.
Designed for use with 3L belt section drives. Pitch diameter adjusts between 1.8 inches and 2.7 inches to accommodate a range of speed ratio requirements in belt-drive systems using a 0.5-inch shaft bore.
Installation should be performed by a qualified HVAC technician or millwright with the system fully de-energized and locked out per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Confirm shaft diameter matches the 0.5-inch bore before mounting and ensure the sheave is secured with the appropriate set screw or bushing to prevent slippage. Maintain a minimum of 4 open turns when setting the variable pitch adjustment for 3L belt compatibility. Check belt tension and alignment with a straightedge or laser alignment tool after installation to prevent premature belt and bearing wear.
