The BRASSCRAFT 49-6-8wn is a 90-degree reducing flare elbow used to change flow direction while transitioning between two different flared tube sizes. Forged from brass, this fitting delivers mechanical strength and corrosion resistance in demanding plumbing and mechanical environments. Flare connections are machined to ANSI B16.26 dimensions, producing a metal-to-metal seal that requires no pipe dope, sealant tape, or additional sealing compounds. The 3/8-inch OD flare inlet connects to a 1/2-inch male end, making it suited for copper tube gas and fluid systems where a direction change and size transition must occur in a single fitting.
This reducing elbow is used in residential and light commercial plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical piping applications where copper tubing is joined using flare-type connections. Typical installations include gas supply lines, refrigerant piping, and water supply runs that require a 90-degree turn while stepping between tube sizes. Licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians are the primary installers of this fitting type.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for copper tube systems using standard flare-type connections in plumbing and HVAC applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified HVAC technician in accordance with applicable local codes and IPC or IFGC requirements. Shut off all gas or fluid supply and depressurize the line before disassembling existing fittings. Use a calibrated flaring tool to prepare tube ends to ANSI B16.26 specifications before assembly. Do not overtighten flare nuts, as distortion of the flare seat will compromise the metal-to-metal seal.
