The BRADFORD WHITE PLT1010 is a replacement thermocouple designed for use in gas-fired water heater applications. A thermocouple is a safety sensing device that generates a small millivolt signal when heated by the pilot flame. This signal holds the gas valve open during normal operation. If the pilot goes out, the thermocouple cools, the signal drops, and the gas valve shuts off as a safety measure. The PLT1010 is installed by licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians during routine water heater service or pilot assembly replacement.
This thermocouple is suited for residential gas water heater installations where the original sensing element has failed or degraded. A failing thermocouple is one of the most common causes of a pilot that will not stay lit. Replacing the thermocouple is a standard service call task and restores proper pilot safety shutoff function to the appliance. It is used in gas water heater systems utilizing a standing pilot ignition and a millivolt-operated gas valve.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement thermocouple for BRADFORD WHITE gas water heaters equipped with standing pilot ignition systems and millivolt-operated gas valves.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified HVAC technician in accordance with local codes and the appliance manufacturer instructions. Shut off the gas supply to the water heater and allow the unit to cool completely before beginning any work on the pilot assembly. The thermocouple tip must be positioned correctly in the pilot flame to generate adequate millivoltage. Do not overtighten the thermocouple connection at the gas valve, as this can damage the fitting.
