The ROBERT BOSCH TOOL GROUP GT500 is a 3/8-inch carbide-tipped drill bit engineered specifically for drilling through glass, tile, and similar hard, brittle surfaces. The precision tip geometry eliminates bit wander and bit walking at the start of a drill stroke, a common failure point when working on smooth, hard materials. The reinforced carbide head resists cracking under load and extends service life compared to standard spade or masonry tips. The shank features three flat surfaces that lock securely in the drill chuck and prevent slippage during operation. This bit is used by tile setters, plumbers, glaziers, and general contractors who need clean, accurate holes in finished surfaces.
The GT500 is suited for residential and light commercial applications where holes must be drilled through ceramic tile, porcelain, glass, and similar hard materials without cracking or spalling the surrounding surface. It ships in a 3-pack, making it practical for jobs that require multiple holes or where bit replacement mid-task is likely. The innovative geometry is designed to increase drilling speed through hard materials while maintaining hole accuracy. This bit is compatible with standard 3/8-inch and larger drill chucks accepting a flat-shank bit.
Designed for use with standard drill chucks that accept a 3-flat shank bit. Suitable for drilling glass, ceramic tile, porcelain tile, and similar hard brittle materials.
A licensed tile setter or experienced tradesperson should install this bit in a variable-speed drill or drill-driver set to a low speed with steady, moderate pressure. Water or a cutting lubricant applied to the drill point helps dissipate heat and reduces the risk of cracking the workpiece. Never use hammer or percussion mode when drilling glass or tile. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent shifting.
