The BOSCH 8738714992 is an ionization electrode used in gas-fired heating equipment to detect the presence of a burner flame. The electrode passes a small current through the flame to confirm ignition, allowing the control board to verify safe combustion and keep the system running. If no flame signal is detected, the control board initiates a lockout sequence to prevent unburned gas from accumulating. This part is installed by licensed HVAC technicians during routine maintenance or when a system presents with nuisance lockouts, ignition failures, or erratic flame-sensing behavior.
Ionization electrodes are typically found in residential and light commercial gas furnaces and boilers. This electrode is suited for service calls where the original sensing electrode has become coated, cracked, or otherwise degraded to the point where it can no longer pass a reliable flame signal to the control board. It serves as a direct replacement for the original part to restore proper flame-sensing function.
Supplied as a direct replacement for OEM part number 8738722789. Consult equipment documentation to confirm fitment before installation.
Ionization electrodes are installed by qualified HVAC technicians. Before servicing, shut down the appliance and disconnect electrical power at the disconnect switch or breaker. Allow the heat exchanger and burner assembly to cool completely before handling internal components. Inspect the electrode holder and wiring harness for damage at the time of replacement, and confirm the new electrode is seated and secured properly before restoring power and testing ignition.
